On the west coast situated between Cala
Conta and Port Des Torrent is the large beach of Cala Bassa. Backed by a shady
pine forest you can also choose to lie within the pine trees as well as on the
hot sand. A great place for children, the beach has lots of rocks at one end
to explore. There are several water sports on offer here and a water taxi service
directly from San Antonio.
Not far from Cala Bassa and an alternative
in a resort with restaurants, shops and brightly coloured homes and apartments.
There is usually lots of room on this wide beach and fantastic views from the
hills during the drive down. A great place for an Ibiza villa and there are many in the resort. Our villa ta this beach is Luna y Sol.
Very popular as a back drop for photo
shoots, Cala Conta beach is separated into small coves, bays and strips as it
changes from soft sand to bright red rock. There are three good restaurants located
on the top of the beach with views overlooking the sea and dramatic rocks characteristic
of Ibiza. Our villa near this beach is Casa Azul.
Cala Jondal is located between Sa Caleta and Es Torrent
on the south side of the Island. A selection of bars and restaurants including
the superb Blue Marlin serve the area and bar Alegria plays chillout music to
the area of the beach. All the small beaches along this strip offer have masseurs and you’ll need to get there early in the height of season
to secure a sun lounger (which the sunbed wardens tend to reserve for their regulars!). A great place for people spotting with some of the
most exclusive boats and villas in this area. There is ample parking but no buses
run to these beaches - people arrive by car or yacht. Our villa near this beach is Can Nicolas.
On the way out of Ibiza town and towards Las Salinas you'll find a turn for the Beach Es Cavallet. This is a beautiful wild and windy beach with long stretches of sand. You won't find any sunbeds on the main part of this beach but you will find the superb Restaurant Escollera. There are some parts of this beach which are nudist and some parts which are even more open minded than that.
Just behind the restaurant overlooking the beach is the Villa Casa Grande.
Drive through the salt flats from Ibiza Town
and you will come to Las Salinas beach at the end. There is a large (though not
free!) car park and a short walk through the trees leads you on to this dramatic,
wild beach. This is one of the island’s most exclusive beaches and true
to it’s hippy roots. There is a nudist section at the far end, and a few
excellent restaurants along it’s length. Our villa by this beach is Dizzy Heights.
Playa d’en
Bossa is just outside of Ibiza town and is classified as an EC Blue Flag beach.
It goes from being a family beach at one end, to a party bech by Bora Bora to
a classy beach at Coc Beach. Just a few minutes walk away from Space you will
find many clubbers use this as a place to flop before heading into Space club,
also in the resort. Overlooking Playa d'en Bossa beach are the Apartments Bossa Sol.
Cala Codolar is a small secluded beach located
in between Cala Tarida and Cala Conta. A perfect get away from it all beach,
again there are no public transport links – you just need your jeep and
a bit of nerve as it is the end of a very long, windy and steep dirt track in
the middle of nowhere but worth it when you get there. A lightly populated beach
of many locals, small beach bar, and sun loungers are your reward at the end.
Located between Cala Vedella and Cala Conta, this is the longest
and widest beach on the west of the island. It is very popular with families
and has a good selection of bars and restaurants that run along the beach and
some good hotels and apartments on the cliffs above. There is plenty of parking
in Cala Tarida but to get to the beach itself you have to climb down a steep
set of steps. A popular stop off for boat trips.
Sa Caleta is an ideal
beach for families and young children as the water is very shallow. There is
one steep path onto the well sheltered beach but plenty of free parking available.
At the top of the slope there is a restaurant and a shop selling typical Ibiza
fashion. A nice pebbly alternative on the west coast.
Cala Moli is
hidden away between Cala Tarida and Cala Vadella on the west coast of Ibiza.
A steep winding track leads down to the beach on both sides and also provides
an amazing view of the area on the way down. Cala Moli is an ideal place to get
away from it all as it is one of the lesser known beaches in the area and is
therefore generally quite quiet. There is a beach bar selling food and drinks.
One of our favourites, Benirras is widely considered to be the
one that most typifies the island. There was a time when this was a closely guarded
secret, however it’s growing reputation has ensured that many of the cool
set mingle with the local hippies. Admittedly Benirras isn’t the easiest
beach to get to, access is via a narrow road from Puerto San Miguel (just follow
the signs) but there is plenty of shady parking at the end. It’s a must
on your list of beaches to see. Our villa close to Benirras is Villa Can Vidal.
Not far out of San Antonio but a
world away, this little shingly beach is where all the locals go to get away
for their day off. It’s a long, windy drive down but there is plenty of
parking at the end. A superb fish restaurant at one end and a walk across the
cliffs to it’s tiny neighbour make this beach quite popular for a change.
Close to this beach are Villas Can Joan 1 & Can Joan 2 and Villa Vienna.
S’Argamassa is located between Santa Eulalia and Es Cana and
is known for it’s great water sports. The shallow water and presence of
life guards on this beautiful sandy beach make it ideal for families with wandering
children. There are several different water sports on offer and the southern
winds make great conditions for wind surfing.
As one of Portinatx’s
numerous beaches, Cala de Xarraca is a quiet, secluded bay with beautiful views.
There is a welcoming restaurant overlooking the beach, serving a selection of
delicious foods. If you are looking to escape the popular tourist beaches this
is the place to be. However, if you still want a bit of adventure, exploring
the beautiful rocks and cliffs is made easy with the wide availability of peddle
boats to hire.
A small beach with a small restaurant at the end of a very windy road, this beach is known especially for it's spectacular views of the island of Es Vedra and for it's great diving. You can park on the way down to the beach and there is no shade whatsoever, so take your parasols. Can get busy in the height of season but worth a visit for the views alone. The Villa Vedra is close by.
