Ibiza truly is an island of contrasts. But the
very mention of the name San Antonio and Ibiza could strike the fear of God into some people.
Sadly, the island name has also become synonymous with British lager louts due
to the media it attracted many years ago. It could have been anywhere, but the
resignation of the British Consul put Ibiza in the spotlight and 3 months of
intensive filming were condensed into 1 week of debauchery.
So, Ibiza has done
a lot to shake up it’s alcopops (sorry) image in the UK. There is a new,
fresh group of people who now visit Ibiza – they are discerning, they expect
the Ibiza Experience to be something unique and they are not afraid to spend
money if the quality is right.
So Ibiza changed too. It took off it’s dayglo
speedos and put on it’s kaftan. Put down it’s bottle of Hooch and
picked up a mojito. Threw away it’s kebab and went all Fusion. And it’s
never looked back.
It’s all about lifestyle you see and Ibiza People are
now putting together their own holidays.
Open your little eyes in your own Ibiza villa with a pool or a beautifully cool room in a hotel or apartment. Now the temptation
is to lounge around the pool and it beats the morning traffic any day of the
week.
You could spend your day lying on the Ibiza beaches of course. If it’s a
day with the children then choose from the family beaches in the resorts; all
white sand and turquoise waters. If it’s to see or be seen then drive out
to be seen in Las Salinas or Cala Jondal where ambient tunes hang in the breeze
and the sunseekers tap their toes to the rhythm.
Start off the evenings in the
sunset cafés of San Antonio where you’ll find a real mix of ages
and nationalities; or a stroll along the harbours in Santa Eulalia or Ibiza Town.
As the night draws in head for the bars and pavement cafés in the resorts
or the fantastic range of gastropubs and restaurants tucked into the hills for
gambas a la plancha. In Ibiza dining out is an experience in itself.
And if you
still can’t stop then there are always Ibiza nightclubs. Did I
forget to mention the nightclubs? Well, we’re only the clubbing centre
of the Universe so we better cover it here. If you’re feeling Model Fabulous
then head to the San Rafael Hills for Amnesia or Privilege or to Ibiza Marina & Playa
d’en Bossa for El Divino, Pacha and Space . Large shades a must for the
ultimate Balearic Experience. And there are lots of clubs in San Antonio to choose from too. On second thoughts, we better give the Ibiza Clubs
their own section. |
